How to Calculate THC Per Serving in Homemade Edibles (The Simple Formula)
The number one mistake I see in homemade edibles isn't the recipe. It's the math. People mix up the weight of the powder with the amount of THC, and that is how a "5 mg" brownie turns into a 50 mg brownie.
Here is the fix: one formula you can do in your head.
Powder is not THC
A nano THC powder is mostly carrier and emulsifier. At a potency of 100 mg THC per gram, only one tenth of each gram is THC. That gives you a handy rule:
Every 0.01 g of powder = 1 mg of THC.
The formula
Grams of powder = servings × mg per serving ÷ 100
If your powder has a different potency, divide by that number instead of 100.
Example: a pitcher of lemonade
You want 8 glasses at 5 mg each.
- 8 × 5 = 40 mg total
- 40 ÷ 100 = 0.40 g of powder
Example: a pan of brownies
You want 24 squares at 2.5 mg each.
- 24 × 2.5 = 60 mg total
- 60 ÷ 100 = 0.60 g of powder
- Then cut 24 equal squares with a ruler. The math only works if the portions are equal.
Check your work backward
mg per serving = grams of powder × 100 ÷ servings. If the number doesn't match what you planned, stop and re-weigh before anything goes in the bowl.
Start low
For first-timers, 2.5 mg per serving or less is a smart place to start. Wait at least two hours before having more — you can always add, but you can never subtract.
